I have been living in Salzburg for nearly three years now and, in that time, I've been carefully curating my self-care toolkit. While I was at a nail appointment the other week, I was chatting to my nail lady (who feels like a big sister to me) about putting together a little guide to all my favourite self-care spots in Salzburg for everyone who's ever DM'ed me for recommendations. Think beauty, mental health and physical health...
A bonus about the places below is that they speak English, which can be super helpful if you're just visiting and need a self-care spot or if you've just moved here and can't quite yet grasp Austrian-German dialect!
Disclaimer: I have not tried every single spot in Salzburg, these are just the places I came across after doing my own research and love my experiences there and recommend them to my girlfriends all the time. I hope it's a useful starting point for you if you live here or are visiting here, too.
BEAUTY
HAIRDRESSER
NAILS
Care 4 Your Nails - vegan powder-dip, Russian manicure, no UV
MICROBLADING & FACIALS & PEDICURES
TATTOO PARLOUR
HEALTH
Dentist - Dr Strasser | GP - Dr König | Gynaecologist - Dr Tringler | Dermatologist - Dr Perner
OPTICIAN
VIU Eyewear - they do free eye tests and they sell the chicest collections
TRAVEL VACCINATION CLINIC
Gesundheitsamt der Stadt Salzburg - they offer a walk-in clinic every Tuesday to Friday from 8-11am
SPOTS FOR PICNICS & WALKS
Because going out for a walk or a picnic in the sunshine absolutely counts on the list of self-care. Luckily, Salzburg is home to plenty of picnic spots, sitting-in-the-sun spots and going-for-pretty-walk spots.
ALMKANAL
My go-to hang out spot - next to a cold and clear-as-glass canal for icy swims
WALDBAD ANIF
A manmade lake south of Salzburg - with a cafe and Sunday dance parties
SALZACH
Sit down anywhere along the river - you'll see loads of picnic-goers
MONSCHBERG
Some of my favourite city views - along and above the river
KAPUZINERBERG
A trek over the hill - ending with some of the city's best views
SCHLOSSPARK HELLBRUNN
FEEL-GOOD CAFES
Because a oat milk chai latte and a tasty (often vegan) treat goes a long, long way. Especially when shared with friends. I've also got a ton of restaurant recommendations, but I'll save that for a separate post.
MY MOM'S
My absolute all-time favourite spot - I take everyone here. Tiny and perfect, especially their vegan cookies and cinnamon rolls.
CAFÉ BAZAR
Iconic, old-timey and classy, right on the River Salzach. Sip your coffee and flip through a newspaper.
220GRAD Nonntal
If you can nab a spot outdoors on their terrace... ooh baby.
220GRAD Rupertinum
A classic in Salzburg, across the square from the iconic Festspielehaus.
PLACES TO MOVE
As much as it's been said before, for me, exercise has been a critical element of self-love and self-care. It is almost a foolproof guaranteed method to make me feel better: shutting down the outside world, tuning into my body, sweating and moving and ensuring the healthy hormones are flowing to my brain. Here are some of my favourite spots to move in Salzburg:
YOGA
Take a class at Bliss Yoga Studio
RUN
My favourite route is along the Salzach River
DANCE
Everyone knows my favourite spot is Pepe's (Club, not Bar)
HIKE
Pictured: Untersberg and check out all my Austrian hiking guides
SKI
Pictured: Dachstein West and check out all my skiing guides
SWIM
Pictured: Attersee and check out all my favourite lakes near Salzburg
Bike
I love the route out to Schloss Hellbrunn
ICE SKATE
The best spot is Leopoldskroner Weiher when it's frozen over in winter
What did I miss?
Let me know in the comments if there are other noteworthy self-care spots in Salzburg to add!
