Of all the places I visited during my weekend exploring Luxembourg, Vianden was by far my favourite town. I kept wondering out loud how this place could possibly be so cute and photogenic!
The furthest spot from Luxembourg City on my itinerary, Vianden is easily accessibly by free bus from Ettelbruck and other major nearby towns and cities.
Vianden is perfect for adding to your bus or roadtrip around Luxembourg as it offers plenty of wonderful things to do in easy walking distance. Here are my favourite suggestions:
1. Streets of Vianden
Start your time in Vianden by wandering the idyllic streets. Quaint restaurants mixed with pastel-coloured buildings make this whole place seem straight out of a fairy tale.
2. Banks of the River Our
Along the riverfront, you'll find plenty of sweet restaurants, perfect for sitting down and people watching. Here you'll also see the picture-perfect Ourbrücke with its two arches in front of the stunning backdrop of pastel houses and the majestic Vianden Castle rising high above it all.
3. Castle Vianden
And the crowning jewel of it all, the Castle Vianden, known as one of the most beautiful in all Europe. Sitting poignantly above the town, Castle Vianden is the largest castle in all of Luxembourg. There's a fantastic viewpoint if you follow the steps up from Neipiertchen, across the street from the Auberge Du Chateau which is well worth the walk.
