Although I was planning to spend a week hiking and exploring the tiny little mountainous country of Andorra for a week, an opportunity came up to head back to Lisbon for a few days.
I had spent three months living in Portugal at the end of last year, including three weeks based out of Lisbon, and loved the city (and the entire country) so much, so was excited to be back so unexpectedly soon.
One of the best things I got to do while I was back based here was to explore more of the coastal regions further out of Lisbon. About an hour south of Lisbon, across the bridge in the Sesimbra region, is to explore the beautiful Parque Natural da Arrábida and soak in its incredible viewpoints.
Boasting cliffs, pure white sand beaches, panoramic views, a convent dating back to the 1500s and winding coastal roads, this park is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. Here's where to visit in the park:
1. Miradouro do Portinho da Arrábida
This Insta-famous viewpoint is a rickety wooden platform just off the side of the highway with a small parking pullout. While it's a bit sketchy, it offers some of the greatest views on the drive.
2. Praia do Portinho da Arrábida
This is the main beach in the park and can be reached by driving down from the platform along the coastal road and then walking a short way from the parking lot to the beach. It's got white sand and icy fresh cold waters running across a stony beach entrance.
3. Praia da Figueirinha
This beautiful little beach juts out as the coast curves around and is well-spotted from the viewpoint up above.
