A Picnic at Thumsee

Aside from that chaotic week where the spring snows decided to redescend upon Salzburg last month - as that famous German lyric goes, "April, April, der macht, was er will" which roughly translates to "April, April, he does want he wants" - it seems that spring is firmly here and summer is truly just around the corner.

With the warmer evenings stretching much longer into the later hours of the day, afterwork adventures are much more opportune. So it was that I found myself spontaneously in the car heading towards Bad Reichenhall for a picnic with a friend on the shores of the quiet and peaceful little Thumsee, tinged a gorgeous shade of green and tucked just back from the road.

A walking trail all around the perimeter was popular with runners, dogwalkers and bikers alike and the cool water bubbled with fish. We didn't swim, but apparently it's one of Bavaria's most popular bathing spots in the summer!
