I moved to Salzburg in mid-September, leaving Belgium behind and embarking on a new solo chapter. I only spent five days in Salzburg, rushing around setting up my apartment, building Ikea furniture, unpacking boxes, declaring residency and getting the internet sorted. It was a manic couple of days but it had to be done quickly as at the end of those five days, I had a one-way flight to Portugal booked, where I've spent the past nearly three months enjoying the sunshine, warm lingering temperatures and being oceanside in a fresh headspace.
Those three months have come to an end now and yesterday, I flew back from Lisbon to Munich and hopped on a train across the border back "home" to Salzburg where I was greeted with an abundance of snow and near-freezing temperatures - quite the change from the beaches and ocean I had been enjoying back in the Algarve.
I spent my morning unpacking, figuring out my place and getting my bearings, before heading off for a long walk up a beautiful hill right in the heart of the city that offers 360 degrees views across Salzburg. In the brisk winter air, the snow crunching beneath my feet, the hike up was a wonderful escape into nature for an afternoon.
The Kapuzinerberg view point can be accessed from multiple points:
- via the Imbergstiege stairway from Steingasse
- from the Franziskustor gate in Linzergasse
- from Fürbergstraße in the north-east, then up the Doblerweg
You'll discover a multitude of walking trails, viewpoints, a church, a castle and a wonderful feeling of being out even in the heart of the city.
