I'm working remotely from Sevilla for a few weeks, enjoying the sunshine, incredible architecture and delightful atmosphere of one of the most beautiful cities I've been to. Sevilla is located in southern Spain and is the perfect base from which to explore much of the surrounding region.
On my first weekend trip out of the city, I took a train east to Córdoba, a city home to iconic yellow buildings, the old town of which is a UNESCO site.
One of the most popular attractions in the city is the Alcazar of the Christian Royals, which I highly recommend to book in advance because it was fully booked out when I visited so I sadly didn't get to visit this spot.
However, equally as awe-inspiring is the nearby Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba, formally known as La Mezquita. Built in the 700s, this unique blend of religious styles means this is one of the world's best preserved monuments of both Islam and Christianity in which both an immense mosque with a columned prayer hall features alongside a Christian Renaissance-style nave. The red and white striped columns, the exquisitely tall ceilings - it was truly stunning.
Buy tickets to visit the Mosque-Cathedral here.
In front of the Mosque-Cathedral lies the famous and elegant Roman Bridge of Córdoba built in the whopping 1st century with its archways stretching across the Guadalquivir River.
