I've recently become really into biking and have been pinning lakes and mountains within an hour or two of biking distance from my home in Salzburg. Luckily, we have some pretty incredible options nearby across Salzburgerland, the state within which Salzburg resides.
With a very odd June weather forecast behind us, much of it grey and rainy with bursts of hot sunshine in between, it was imperative that we take advantage of the few good days by being outdoors. On one such day, when the skies were clear and the thermotsat reached was in the high 20ºCs, I decided it would be the perfect opportunity to visit a new lake on my list.

HOW TO GET TO BLUNTAUSEEN
The Bluntauseen are two absolutely exquisite clear turquoise lakes near Golling, south of Salzburg. I went by bike, which took about an hour and a half along the Salzach. The Bluntauseen are about 30km away from Salzburg on the bike and it was a seriously stunning ride past incredible mountain views. Check out my exact Strava route here.
Alternatively, you can drive in about half an hour or, if you're up for a bit of a hike, hop on the S-Bahn direct from Salzburg and get off at Golling-Abtenau; the lake is about an hour away on foot.
HOW TO SPEND A DAY AT BLUNTAUSEEN
You can't swim in Bluntauseen because of all the wildlife that call these two lakes home. But it's very popular to visit because the landscapes are seriously otherwordly. The water is so clear, there are plenty of animals to spot as you circumnavigate the two lakes and you might even get to spot the mini ponies that live around here.
