These are the most incredible lakes in Canada that absolutely everyone should have on their bucket list. Living in Canada is an absolute dream: waterfalls, mountains, oceans galore, as well as some of the world’s prettiest lakes! From the easy ones, just steps from the parking lot, to the tough ones requiring a full day's hike to get there, here are some of the most amazing places I've had a chance to set my eyes on so far.

GARIBALDI LAKE, GARIBALDI PROVINCIAL PARK, BRITISH COLUMBIA

This breathtaking hike winds up through Taylor Meadows to the top of Panorama Ridge, and then back down via Garibaldi Lake, and offers some of the most incredible views I’ve ever taken in. The trail to Panorama Ridge looking down over the lake is 30km, and the trail to just the lake is about 19km. Give yourself at least a full day to see it all.

Distance from parking lot: 8 hours. Complete hiking guide here.

EMERALD LAKE, YOHO NATIONAL PARK, BRITISH COLUMBIA

The most gorgeous stop in Yoho National Park is home to truly emerald coloured water. Its easy access means it is often quite packed. Take the secret path for far-off views of the lodge and the mountains.

Distance from parking lot: minimal.

MORAINE LAKE, BANFF NATIONAL PARK, ALBERTA

The greatest spot for sunsets in the entire country in my opinion is the shores of Moraine Lake. The iconic tooth-shaped mountain range protects the turquoise waters of this stunning alpine gem.

Distance from parking lot: 5 minutes.

Just past Pemberton you can hike through the Joffre Lakes Provincial Park trail past three stunningly blue lakes.

Distance from parking lot: 2 hours to hike 11km. Check out my hiking guide for Joffre here.

LAKE LOUISE, BANFF NATIONAL PARK, ALBERTA

Lake Louise is just like the pictures show it – serene, milky blue waters in front of a gorgeous mountain backdrop. Avoid the middle of the day when it’s packed with visitors!

Distance from parking lot: minimal.

PEYTO LAKE, JASPER NATIONAL PARK, ALBERTA

More commonly known as the Fox Lake, this impressive feat of nature can only be viewed from afar. This view offers visitors the iconic look at the fox-like shape of the shores without taking away from the pristine nature.

Distance from parking lot: 5 minutes.

LAKE AGNES, BANFF NATIONAL PARK, ALBERTA

An hour trek up from Lake Louise, Lake Agnes is home to a darling little teahouse and is the starting point for the incredible hikes to Little and Big Beehive with panoramic views of Lake Louise from above. Go in September for the perfect fall colours.

Distance from parking lot: 1 hour hike to the teahouse. Check out my detailed hiking guide for Lake Agnes Teahouse and Little Beehive here.
