Coming off of a wild 2022, which saw me visit 26 countries across 5 continents and spend much of my time traveling abroad and working remotely, I was fully ready to spend much more time at home, unwinding and just enjoying being present (and not living out of a suitcase!). But lo and behold, it's only part of the way through January and I'm sitting in the airport in Zurich to write this blog post.
It was a low key trip though, just five days in two cities in Switzerland - my first time in this country, making it #49 on my list - and the real reason I came was not to check off a bunch of stuff from my bucket list but rather, to catch up with Joaquim, a friend of mine, for the first time since we'd met back in late 2021 in Porto.
I spent most of my time in Bern, where Joaquim lives, and we spent our days (after the work day was done) wandering the cold, wintery city. With my outbound flight to my next destination departing from Zurich, I spent 24 hours in the biggest city in Switzerland.
For my one night in Zurich, I stayed at the Hotel Adler, a small but cosy three-star hotel in the heart of the Altstadt and in perfect walking distance to anything you might want to see in town. I ate dinner at Enzian, a fully vegan restaurant (but quite pricey for what you get, given that it is Switzerland after all) and had a chai latte and a smoothie at Green Gorilla.
Other than that, I spent my Sunday wandering the city while it snowed gently on the cobblestoned streets of the old town. Here's what I saw:
