One of the best things about Mallorca is how varied the landscape is. Of course, being an island, it has countless beautiful beaches, but what really blows me away are the mountains.
I first visited Mallorca in 2022 without a car and was thrilled to come back in late 2025 with my partner to explore the island even further. One of the things I absolutely wanted to see for myself were the scenic mountain passes that make up the northern side of the island. This is truly otherworldly and was one of the highlights of our week on Mallorca.
The Sa Calobra Mountain Pass stretches from Sóller and Fornalutx down to the coast at Sa Calobra. The only way currently to travel the mountain pass is with your own car; I am not aware of any public transport that travels this way.
Sóller and Fornalutx are two of Mallorca's most charming little villages with aesthetic corners, fantastic shopping in cute boutiques and delicious gelato. We spent our day exploring these two villages before planning to drive the Sa Calobra Mountain Pass in the afternoon.

You can drive the Mountain Pass at any time of day, but I can really recommend the late afternoon as the golden hour is truly spectacular across the mountainous landscape.
It is free to drive the Sa Calobra Mountain Pass; simply get in your car and don't forget your camera!

The Sa Calobra Mountain Pass is about 40km in length measured from Sóller down to the coast at Sa Calobra. According to Google Maps this drive takes about an hour but I guarantee you with the amount of times you're going to want to stop and pull over to take photos and take in the scenery, you should give yourself at least three hours!
The only way to get back from Sa Calobra is to drive the Mountain Pass in reverse, so we drove the entire thing twice. It was actually really great doing this, because it meant we got to take in the views from both sides! Make sure you give yourself enough time to get there and back again.
I have done my best to caption each photo location below with where we stopped along the Sa Calobra Mountain Pass; there are just so many photo spots, viewpoints, lakes and winding roads you're going to want to see.
