With my month-long journey across the European continent under my belt through Belgium, Spain, Northern Ireland, Ireland and England, all I really wanted to was get home to the spring weather and get out into the mountains with my friends.
The 1 May public holiday was the perfect chance and, after a weekend of rain, the sky dawned clear and bright, with just a few clouds dotting the sky - the perfect temperature and weather for a day on the trails.
Originally intending to hike the Glasenbachklamm, a trail through a dense and lush gorge, the rains had flooded the trail and it was impassable. So, we sourced a trail heading up the mountain and figured we'd see where it got us. We lucked out with a wonderful trek all the way to the Erentrudisalm, a delightful surprise (especially that it was already open in May as most Austrian huts don't open until June) and a perfect length for our first hike of the season. Seven of us laughed and trekked our way upwards, rewarded with delicious Spinatknödel and Almdudlers at the top in the sunshine, with the goregous mountains of Salzburg surrounding us.
