We've tried a few different day spas in Austria over the last six months and every time we have such a wonderful, indulging experience.
After my 5-week, 6-country Central America backpacking trip, I returned to Europe in mid-March exhausted from my massive adventure. And so, we figured that the first weekend I was back home was the ideal opportunity to check out a new day spa on our list and get some proper relaxation and rest in. Call it post-backpacking bliss!
After a lot of time spent searching on Google Maps, we found Puradies in Leogang. We made some calls very late on Saturday evening and managed to nab the final spot for a day spa booking the following morning. Wellness hotels only give out a handful of day spa spots; priority of course goes to their overnight guests.
It was genuinely a perfect day. Austrians just have the spa culture nailed - think luxuriously designed spas, incorporating natural spaces both indoor and out, overlooking mountains. We both agreed that Puradies is probably our favourite Austrian day spa we have been to so far. Yup, relaxation perfection.
By flight: The closest airport to Puradies is in Salzburg. The larger Munich Airport is just a few hours further north. You can take the train from either to Leogang station and be collected there by Puradies.
By car: Puradies is a one and a half hour drive from Salzburg. Free parking is provided outside the hotel. You must have winter tires between November and April to access Puradies.
→ If you don't have your own car, you can rent one in Salzburg.
By train: From Salzburg, the train to Puradies takes about two and a half hours with a connection in either Saalfelden, Zell am See or Wörgl. Puradies is just a short transfer away from the Leogang train station; you can email Puradies in advance and they will collect you from Leogang.

As I live in Salzburg, we opted to book the Day Spa at Puradies to spend a full day in their mountain wellness centre. Alternatively, if you're coming from further abroad and want to spend a few days at Puradies indulging in all their offers, then you can book a room in the gorgeous hotel. Facilities at Puradies include:
- Right on the ski hill, with ski-in ski-out access, in winter
- Access to hiking trails in summer
- A view overlooking Hochkönig
- Excellent buffet breakfast (especially the porridge!) and gourmet on-site dining (we love the ravioli)
- A 1500m² wellness centre, including adults-only sections
- A choice between designer hotel rooms or private chalets
- Fitness space and yoga studio overlooking the mountains
- Seriously good service from their staff
- Exquisite outdoor spaces
- Luxurious and comfortable interior design
- And more...

As I live in Salzburg, we opted to book the Day Spa at Puradies to spend a full day in their mountain wellness centre. We had access to over 1500m² of world-class, calming and beautifully designed wellness spaces including their 10,000m² outdoor space from 10:30am to 8:00pm as well as a buffet breakfast (7:00-10:30am) and a light afternoon lunch buffet.
We arrived and parked our car in the outdoor parking lot and stepped inside the low key lobby where we were greeted with the same level of joy and service as if we were overnight guests. Our bags were looked after as we were guided through the hotel to the breakfast room where a few different rooms were spread with a breakfast buffet featuring local produce; I can highly recommend the porridge.
After breakfast, we collected our bags from reception and were provided with a tote containing our fluffy bathrobes and slippers for our day in the spa. We were led downstairs to the entrance of the wellness area where we got ready in the changing room. While you need to bring your own swimwear for the outdoor area, the rest is provided by the hotel, including shampoo, body wash, towels, bath robes, slippers and body lotion.
After donning our bathrobes, we had a big, empty day stretching out before us, just waiting for us to fill it with wellness indulgements. As we were some of the first guests into the spa and intent on making the most out of our day pass, we promptly undertook a complete tour of the space, visiting every room and pool to snap a few photos before other guests began to filter in.
The general wellness area is spread across two floors with various relaxation rooms, indoor access through to the outdoor pool and a cafe. There is a separate adults-only sauna section with a few different kinds of saunas and multiple floors of relaxation areas to choose from. A large natural outdoor pond and a beautiful yoga studio finishes the space.
