After my first ever day on the slopes in Europe spent on the hill at Schladming which was a fantastic and relatively easy spot to ease back into things, and a bit of a tougher day last weekend at Zell am See with heavy snow and low visibility making for very fluffy and bumpy runs, I was absolutely over the moon to find the perfect conditions at Bad Gastein today.
You can read all about my ski story over on my Zell am See Photo Diary which tells the tale of me learning to ski quite late on in life (for a Canadian), leaving my skis in storage for more than three years, and then schlepping them across the Atlantic to tackle the slopes in Europe - alone!
Practice really does make perfect, and while I'm far from perfect, each day I'm up on the hills I feel stronger and more confident. Day three was one for the books - it may just have been my personal best day of skiing ever. Check out my Strava record here.
Bad Gastein is a pretty big hill, in the very near vicinity of many other resorts including Bad Hofgastein, meaning there's tons of runs to choose from. The Stubnerkogel Mountain, the main peak from which most runs start, is iconic, with views of Austria's tallest mountain, the Grossglockner, and an impressive suspension bridge running in front of the mountains. Truly a spectacular spot to spend the day.
