If you know me, you know I seek out my favourite flower everywhere in the world (Provence, France of course, as well as British Columbia, Canada and most recently Tasmania, Australia). There's something so endearing about twirling around in a beautiful field of deliciously smelling lavender.
I was delighted to hear that Wanaka is home to its very own lavender farm!
How to Get to Wanaka Lavender Farm
Situated just 5km outside of Wanaka town, getting to Wanaka Lavender Farm is very easy. Walking from town takes just an hour or you can bike, drive or hitch-hike your way there. I walked there from town and then got a ride back into town with a lovely couple I met while exploring the grounds! (New Zealand is one of the best places in the world to hitch-hike).
Visiting Wanaka Lavender Farm
During peak blooming season, the entrance rates are $5/adult and $2/child. During the rest of the year when the lavenders are not in bloom, they charge $2/adult and children are free as there are still lovely other flowers to see and beautiful corners of the farm to explore. The shop is open year-round selling delightful lavender products. The best time to see the bright purple flowers is December-February, although I still got to see some plants fragrant and delightful bloom.
