The turquoise coast of Türkiye is breathtaking. Exquisite white sandy beaches, little islands dotted along the coast, idyllic seaside towns and the majestic southern mountains make this area a popular and stunning region to visit.
We based ourselves in Kaş for two nights and three days, enabling us to explore much of what this little town and the surrounding area had to offer – which was a lot. We loved the vibe here, and the photogenic backdrops of everywhere we visit only enhanced that feeling.
One morning, I tackled the Sleeping Giant Hike, a steep trail climbing straight up behind Kaş providing simply epic panoramic views of the entire town, nearby coastlines and across the bay to the Greek island of Kastellorizo.
The hike is a steady climb but not difficult and quite short, so can be completed in just a few hours. The reward is immense though and the views and feeling of standing up at the Turkish flag on the summit are unsurpassable.
SLEEPING GIANT HIKE DETAILS
Length: including the walk from Kaş to the start of the trailhead, the hike is about 6km which took me 1.5 hours
Directions: from Kaş, follow Google Maps to the start of the trailhead which is not marked on Google Maps but the exact location of the Sleeping Giant Trailhead is here. From there, follow the red dirt path that switches back up the mountain. Occasionally there are red painted lines indicating the way. Google Maps does not have this trail marked, but Strava does, and it is extremely accurate and easy to follow.
Public Transit: not needed as you can walk from your hotel in Kaş
