I saw an ad for this incredible outdoor mountain spa come up on my Instagram feed and let's just say I was heavily influenced.
With autumn well underway in the mountains of Austria, I decided that a weekend in October would be the perfect time to make a booking at the Naturhotel Forsthofgut, that had been in my Instagram "saves" for so long.

By flight: The closest airport to Naturhotel Forsthofgut is in Salzburg. The larger Munich Airport is just a few hours further north. You can take the train from either to Saalfelden, Leogang or Fieberbrunn. You can pre-arrange a free transfer from any of these three train stations.
By car: Naturhotel Forsthofgut is less than an hour and a half drive from Salzburg. Free parking is provided outside the hotel.
→ If you don't have your own car, you can rent one in Salzburg.

As I live in Salzburg, we opted to book the Day Spa at Naturhotel Forsthofgut to spend a full day in their mountain wellness centre. Alternatively, if you're coming from further abroad and want to spend a few days at the Naturhotel indulging in all their offers, then you can book a room in the gorgeous hotel. Facilities at the Naturhotel include:
- Right on the ski hill, with ski-in ski-out access, in winter
- Access to hiking trails in summer
- A view overlooking the Leogang mountains
- Buffet breakfast and gourmet on-site dining
- A 5700m² wellness centre, including adults-only sections
- A choice between rooms or suites
- Exquisite outdoor spaces, especially their Instagram-famous outdoor pool
- Luxurious and comfortable interior design
- And more...

Naturhotel Forsthofgut is exquisite and, while you can book in for a stay, for those of you seeking a self-care escape for the day (that's also plenty more affordable than a room, at just €125 per person for all-day access to all the facilities from 11am-8pm), then the waldSPA at Forsthofgut might just be the thing.
With vibrantly coloured leaves and crisp morning air, I was craving an escape to a place where I could clear my head and unwind and to allow the new season to fully arrive. With multiple indoor and outdoor facilities, including saunas, hot pools, red light, steam rooms, nap rooms and of course, the famous outdoor natural pool with that impressive mountain backdrop, the whole thing felt impeccably designed to soothe and calm those who visit. It was the perfect place to think and reflect.

You'll need to wear your swimsuit, but everything else is provided for you on site, including a big fluffy bathrobe, slippers to wear around the facilities, towels, shampoo/conditioner/bodywash and body lotion. Much of the waldSPA is adults only and there are facilities where swimsuits are not permitted to be worn. Food isn't included, but QR codes placed around the facilities permit you to order drinks online and have them brought to you.
An excellent sushi restaurant is at the hotel, where we had our lunch.
