Out on the eastern coast of Mallorca is an exceptionally beautiful natural reserve. Mondragó Natural Park lies near the town of Santanyí, and is easy to get to by bus and car from Palma, where most people are based - although there are plenty of hotels in the vicinity.
Come out here for the day to enjoy the stunning 1,893-acre natural park's nature, including grasslands, forests, dunes and pristine coves with bright blue water.
Nearby is the extremely popular Caló del Moro which can get very busy; Mondragó, while busy, felt a little more calmer and there were plenty of waterfront rocks to set up with your book, picnic and beach towel for the day.
How to Get to Mondragó Natural Park
Driving here from Palma takes just an hour. If you want to take the public bus (which Mallorca is brilliantly set up for!) from Palma, you'll need to take bus 501 (direction Campos) and get off at La Verge 2. There, pick up the 515 bus (direction Cala d'Or) and get off at Portopetro. Then grab the 521 bus (direction Cala Mondragó) and get off at Sa Barca Trencada.
What to See in Mondragó Natural Park
There are some exceptional beaches and coastal walks to enjoy in this natural reserve. Start by walking from the bus stop to Caló des Borgit, a little cove with stunningly pale blue water. Then, take the coastal trail past the Nido de Ametralladoras, former secret pirate-watching towers, to Cala Mondragó, which was my favourite stop and where I spent most of day perched on the rocks on the side of the inlet, book in hand. You can also make your way to the opposite of Cala Mondragó to S’Amarador beach.
