When I was researching things to do in Vanuatu for my week-long stay here, Mele Cascades kept popping up as a great place to go exploring for an afternoon. Turns out, every list that includes this place is spot on - it's pure magic.
The Mele Cascades are just outside Port Vila in southern Efate, the main island of Vanuatu. A cascading collection of waterfalls and stunningly clear pools work their way up the hillside as you wander past them. You can swim in all of the pools along the way. At the very top after a 20 minute walk from the base, a 35 metre waterfall plunges into the final pool which you reach after clambering through waterfalls guided by a series of ropes.
This place made my visit to Port Vila honestly entirely worth it. I've seen a lot of waterfalls around the world, but this one easily climbs the list as one of my favourites. I highly recommend adventuring here.
You can get to Mele Cascades by car or by public bus from Port Vila. Entrance was 2000 VUV ($22.80 CAD) at the time of writing.
