In my completely unbiased opinion, one of the best parts of going to Croatia is getting to buy and drink Jana Water. Wait, that doesn't have anything to do with my name, does it...?!
Jana Water is Croatia's absolute best water; so popular that instead of featuring beer brands on their outdoor sun umbrellas, you'll find Jana emblazoned across the country instead. And so, when we were visiting Croatia for a long weekend, I wanted to make sure that we added a stop at the source of Jana Water and uncovered the secret of where the country's best water comes from.
I visited Croatia for the first time last summer, spending a few days in Dubrovnik in the very southern part of the country, as part of an eastern European train trip. I loved it so much - the iconic Croatian coastal waters and the beautiful old town.

This time around, we drove through Slovenia from where I live in Salzburg, Austria, before spending our first night in Croatia in the capital of Zagreb. Spoiler: we didn't love the city.

Then, it was time to discover Jana Water:
The factory where Jana Water is bottled is near the source: the mysterious spring of Sveta Jana.
→ This is the exact location of the factory on Google Maps.
By flight: The closest airport is in nearby Zagreb, Croatia's capital city.
By car: We traveled to Sveta Jana by car from Zagreb, a drive which took us about an hour.
By public transport: As far as I can tell, there is no public transport available to reach Jana Water. The closest train station appears to be in Jastrebarsko, a two-hour walk from the factory.

First sighting of the factory
Of course, I didn't actually to go inside the factory of Jana Water, rather we stood outside and saw some packed ready for shipping and grabbed some photos with the sign.
Discover the flawless purity and the perfect mineral composition of Jana natural mineral water. Hidden and untouched until you first open the bottle. - Jana Water
However, the best surprise of all was that just up the road from the factory is the spring of Jana Water, the Stari Bazen Sveta Jana where you can swim for free in the public pool and drink free water from a tap connected to the underground spring! It was such an idyllic way to spend a few hours - Jana swimming in the waters of Jana!!

There are a few parking spots on site for free; please be respectful of the little village as people do call this place home.
