On the beautiful and peaceful island of Menorca, one of the Balearic islands of Spain in the Mediterranean, rugged and wild landscapes await those who leave busier Mallorca and Ibiza behind in search of a quieter escape.
Well-serviced by local buses, the island boasts incredile scenery and hundreds of beaches and coves dotted around the perimeter. The Camí de Cavalls trail circumnavigates the entire island, a 186km trail that connects every beach and bay along the way. It's classified as the GR 223 hike of the Senderos de Gran Recorrido network in Spain.
You can hike the entire thing if you have a few weeks, or you can select small sections of the Camí de Cavalls trail to hike for a day trip. I made some friends at my hostel in Cituadella and together, we hiked from Cala Macarella past Cala Galdana to Cala Mitjana, then returned back the way we came. The beach at Cala Mitjana was spacious and gorgeous, with a nice protected cove for swimming.
