We were spending a long weekend in Oslo, the gorgeous Scandinavian capital of Norway before we ventured up north above the Arctic Circle to Tromsø and Sommarøy.
I reached out to a friend of mine based in Oslo and asked for some local tips on the best things to do during a weekend here. Many things were recommended - check out my complete guide to Oslo to find out - but, apparently:
"The singular most important thing to do on an October weekend in Oslo, is going for a cinnamon bun."
Naturally, we took his advice very seriously and beelined it to the first bakeri we could find... and then made sure to stop at every other bakery we could find to ensure we sampled the best kanelboller Oslo has to offer. In our three days in Oslo, we did thorough research by trying six different kanelboller and ranked them all. While all six were quite honestly mouthwatering, we did come up with an order of best to "less" best.
W. B. Samson took first prize, with its fluffy and perfectly blended mix of cinnamon and sugar absolutely knocking out of the water. Read on to see our other favourites to inspire your own kanelboller mission to Oslo.
