Alkmogel Hike over Mondsee, Austria

When: April to November

Where: hike begins from the small parking lot next to the Krottensee near Winkl

Difficulty: intermediate

Length: from the Krottensee parking lot, we did a loop hike of 12km which took us just over three hours of moving time

Directions: from the Krottensee parking lot, cross the road (carefully!) and head up the trail marked as Almkogel with the yellow sign. You can hike back the way you came or you can do a loop trail along the Zeppezauerbach River and through a valley of wildflowers ending at Schmalnau; then you can walk back up the road to the parking lot.

Public Transit: yes, bus 156 stops in Winkl from where you can walk up about 15 minutes along the road past the Krottensee to start the hike
