My dream is to road trip the entire west coast; but for now a drive from San Francisco to Santa Cruz with my mum will do just the trick! Although hidden by the sea fog for a good portion of the day, the drive was still gorgeous.
Stop 1 – Tunitas Creek Beach
Accessible down a sand ladder, I suggest proper hiking or walking shoes to make the trek down to the gorgeous beach. If not, the views from the top are equally stunning.
Stop 2 – Pescadero State Beach
One of the first beaches you’ll come across that don’t require an entrance/parking fee, this rocky bridge is a lovely place to feel the expanse of the coast.
Stop 3 – Natural Bridges State Beach
Although I think the photos turned out lovely, this isn’t quite as impressive in real life. It’s worth stopping by if you’re in the area.
Stop 4 – Santa Cruz Harbor
Stand precariously on the cliff edge and watch the hoards of surfers tackle the waves of the harbor.
Stop 5 – Santa Cruz Wharf
Wander the length of the iconic wharf, stopping to hear the barking of the sea lions underneath the wooden slats along the way.
Stop 6 – Santa Cruz Boardwalk
Warning, it’s beautiful, thus it’s packed with tourists.
Stop 7 – Surfrider Cafe, Santa Cruz
For delicious burgers and milkshakes in town, swing by the eclectic Surfrider Cafe.
Stop 8 – Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park
One of many California state parks dedicated to these beautiful giants, take some time to appreciate the stunning history of these trees.
